We hired a car from safe drive car on our trip to Hobart. Staff were friendly and helpful. Great rates. Would defiantly go back and hire again. Depot isn’t at airport but it was only a quick trip to get too and from which Safe Car drove us.

(Posting this here as your Perth branch and customer service team have completely ignored us).
I would give this company zero stars if I could. I was part of a group left completely stranded by your Perth Airport branch, and more than three months later, we still have not received our $614 refund.
Our group booked a 7-seater Nissan Serena for 7-12 March 2026. On the morning of 7 March, right as we arrived at Perth Airport at 5am, the company called to say the car wasn't available. They tried to push a smaller vehicle on us, which was completely useless for our group size.
Because they had no proper replacement, their Perth staff explicitly instructed us to cancel the booking on our end, promising a full refund within a few days. We trusted them, processed the cancellation as instructed, and had to scramble at the airport to find an alternative rental company.
Since that morning, we have been completely GHOSTED.
Customer service emails are being ignored. Worse yet, because your staff sneakily told us to initiate the cancellation, our bank in Singapore couldn't dispute the charge because the paperwork makes it look like we cancelled on our own terms. It was a dirty trick to avoid accountability and pocket our money.
Absolutely disgusting behaviour just for a couple hundred bucks. Do not book with this company, no matter how competitive the prices look.
Management: If someone from the Hobart team actually has the integrity to look into this Perth branch mess and return our money, I will update this review.

Service from the local branch was great. Chamika was very efficient and customer friendly!

Just have to note that the communication between the head office and the branch wasn't great.
I was at the airport earlier then expected and head office assured me I could call with internet to let the company know I arrived. Unfortunately this wasn't the case and Chamika was also surprised I was there early. So head office could do better!

Thank you Safe Drive for making my journey around Tassie a truely safe one. Car allocated to me was wonderful, so reliable and beautiful to drive, and great on fuel. The service from Chamika picking me up from airport and on the day of my return was just exceptional. What a happy friendly man he is. Very helpful getting me started on my way. Communication was also quick and very helpful when needing to speak to someone about drop off etc. Thank you again Safe Drive, will happily use your services on a return trip and highly recommend your rental services to anyone visiting Tassie

Renting a car is definitely one of the best ways to travel around Tasmania. I had a great experience with them. They don’t have an office at the airport but they pick you up from the airport to their office (5-10min) and drop you at the end. The driver, Chamika was very kind and helpful. He was always on time. Even if I arrived early, he came within 10 minutes. I also received my deposit 30 min after I dropped the car. Thanks!

I booked a car a month in advance, but this place is a total scam.
Communication: They offered a free shuttle but didn't pick up the phone for 20 mins. Had to take an Uber.
Facility: No signs, very hard to find the office.
Availability: Even with a month-old booking, they had no car for me. No apology, just a "take it or leave it" attitude.
Service: The staff acted like this happens every day. They offered a so-called "upgrade" which was clearly an inferior car.
They wasted our time and money. When we asked for a cancellation, they did it without even asking why. Unprofessional and unreliable. Stay away.

Booked a car last minute and was slightly sceptical because it was the cheapest hire car available, but we have nothing but good things to say about this business! Got picked up from the airport and driven to their place of business. The hire car was spotless, and pretty much looked like it was bought brand new just for us lol. We were handed a little sheet with a summary of everything we might need along the way; drop off time, fuel type, emergency contact number etc.
Drove around for a few days and handed back the car this Sunday. Quick and smooth handover before the business dropped us of at the airport again. Will definetly book with SafeDrive next time we’re in town. Thank you!

The worst car rental i ever rented. Its scams. They took $350 for deposit. They asked $5.500 for small scratched which only cost $250 or less . We gave them $500 for compensation . They took deposit money from me after you think that everything ok with the car and 2 weeks after you left Tasmania they withdrawn your deposit money $350 . Don't go with this company. Worst worst worst car rental. Scams

We rented a Cherry Omoda from Safe Drive Car Rentals in Hobart, and the experience was very disappointing. When we picked up the car, the rear light casing was broken or missing, which is a basic safety issue that should have been noticed and fixed before the car was rented out. It gave us poor confidence in the vehicle’s condition from the start.
After returning the car, we believe we left a Samsung phone between the driver and passenger seat, but when we contacted them about it, they said they couldn’t find anything,which is hard to believe if a proper inspection was done before re-renting the vehicle. We even asked them to contact the current driver to help check, and they agreed but never followed up or got back to us as promised.
I had to call twice in one day and again the next day, and there was still no update or progress; they just kept saying they would call back “ASAP” but never did. On top of that, they didn’t inform us that the credit card authorisation (hold) would be automatically cancelled when we returned the car.
Overall, their customer service was very poor, communication was unreliable, and they failed to handle basic issues and follow up on their commitments. Based on our experience and similar complaints from other customers about communication and service, I cannot recommend their service.

I recently hired a car in Hobart from Safe Drive Car Rental and had an excellent experience from start to finish. The team picked me up directly from Hobart Airport and made the whole process smooth and hassle-free. The staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and professional, which made a great first impression.
The car was clean, comfortable, and in perfect condition throughout my 5-day stay. Returning the car was just as easy, with drop-off right at the airport—super convenient, especially when travelling.
Overall, I’m very satisfied with the service. I’d happily hire from them again and would highly recommend them to anyone visiting Hobart.

I rented a car from this company for 7 days during my holiday. On the third day, the car had a problem. I called the company for assistance, but instead of helping, they only gave me an emergency hotline number and told me to handle the situation myself. There was no coordination, no follow-up, and no concern about whether the customer received help or not. Choosing to rent a car from this company was the biggest mistake.
After that, the company charged me an administrative fee. We called to ask for an explanation and were told that the details would be sent “as soon as possible.” It has now been almost two weeks, and there has been no update at all.
If you are considering renting a car from this company, please think carefully before making your decision.

Cheap for a reason, poorly maintained fleet and not worth the experience.
We picked up a high KM car (80,000km) with knocking suspension sounds and spongy brakes. The website never mentioned that we're paying for a high KM car unlike other major car rental companies that specify that. The interior of the car is not clean, wiped down the steering wheel myself and it was full of oil and stains and missing the boot cover for our luggages at the back. The car (Kia Cerato) had lots of existing scratches and dents along with worn carpet and broken plastic bits on the interior. What made me mad was that the tank wasn't even full when we picked the car up!!! Upon checking the trip computer, it had travelled over 100kms since refueling, so I took a photo of that as evidence. When I returned the car, they tried to sting me for not returning it full even though I filled up the car around 15kms away and returned it with the fuel gauge BEYOND the full marker! I confronted the guy who were trying to accuse me of not filling it up properly with the photo of the fuel gauge when I picked it up then he had nothing to say back to me.
The whole experience feels cheap and 'scammy' especially they pick you up with your own rental car instead of a shuttle bus like other well established rental car company offsite. Not worth saving a few dollars, go with the bigger companies.

Just wrapped up my trip and couldn't be happier with Safe Drive Car Rentals! We booked the car for 3 days. The car was perfect for the journey, very clean, comfy, and reliable. Pick-up was a breeze, the staff were genuinely friendly, and drop-off took barely a minute.

The whole process was very easy (booking, during and drop off). The guys were very friendly and helpful too. Cheapest prices in Hobart, along with clean and new cars (we booked 2 cars, 1 with 2 with baby seats, they set up very with no hassles).

IT IS FREE! Please call us as soon as you collect your Luggage and one our friendly staff member will Pick You up from the Public pickup and drop off area in the airport and drop you at the public pick up and drop off area at the end of your rental period.
Is there a cost if I need Roadside assistance?▼
SafeDrive will not Charge you for any mechanical issues, however if the call out is due to locked keys in the vehicle, Changing Flat tyre, Flat battery due to accessories left on etc., a $200 roadside assistance fee is applicable.
DON’T STRESS! We offer Premium roadside assistance cover just for $10.00 per day which will waive off the $200 roadside assistance fee. NOTE: Towing will Not be covered under this cover.

What documents do I need to rent a car?▼
You will need to present your valid driver’s license and credit/Debit card in your own
name to one of our friendly staff member upon collecting the vehicle. All Drivers must be over 25 years of age with a full driver’s license.Drivers with an international Drivers license will require to provide their country’s license and international license upon picking up the vehicle.Underage? That’s Fine you can still drive with us if you hold a valid full driver’s license, however an underage surcharge will be applied for drivers aged between 21 and 24 years.
Note- Drivers holding a provisional drivers license are not permitted to rent or drive with Safe Drive Car Rentals.
Is there a cleaning fee for smoking inside the car?▼
Excessive Pet Hair, Sand, Dirt could incur a cleaning fee.Smoking inside the vehicle will not be tolerated by SafeDrive and a cleaning fee will be charged on your debit card or credit card.
What should I do if I have an accident/breakdown?▼
Please Report the accident Immediately to the Police. Please ensure that it is very important to take all the necessary details from all the parties involved, including:– a driver licence number.
– vehicle registration plate.
– details of the accident.
– witness statementswe recommend to take photographs of all the driver license of all the drivers involved with the accident and photographic evidence of the accident including damage to the vehicle or vehicles. Our staff are here to assist you anytime in the event of an accident.
